Arts presentation & engagement
In the 2010s, I launched the Re-Sounding History Series through Syracuse University, but now I have worked with the Cornell Concert Series for nearly a decade, doing everything from booking talent, front and back of house, artist hospitality, merch sales, supervising professional and student staff, ticketing, website development and management, publicity and marketing, winning grants, and more.
Academic teaching & publication
I am an ethnomusicologist who studies how people use music to make meaning. I have taught a variety of courses in various capacities at 5 different universities. I love teaching and get great reviews from students and colleagues. My teaching draws from my research, which has so far resulted in 3 books, 20+ peer reviewed articles/book chapters, and more than 30 professional presentations.
music performance & lessons
I have been performing and teaching hammered dulcimer, guitar, and clawhammer banjo decades. I play mostly American Southern old-time and Irish/Celtic musics, although I have also cultivated experience with klezmer and Middle Eastern musics (on qanun). Most recently, I won a local grant to record the original children's music I have been writing!
